Animal Technician

Our client, a Medical Center facility under the aegis of a California Public Ivy university and one of largest health delivery systems in California, seeks accomplished Animal Technician.

Pay: $25/hr. – $27/hr.

Location: San Francisco, CA 94158 (On-site)

Duration: 26-week contract (possibility of extension)
Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 6:30am–3:00pm or 7:00am–3:30pm (schedule determined by hiring manager)

Position Overview

The Animal Care Technician is responsible for animal husbandry, sanitation, health monitoring, and record-keeping in a biomedical research environment. This role ensures the highest standards of care and compliance with regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform animal care, feeding, and room sanitation
  • Monitor animal health and report concerns to veterinary and compliance staff
  • Maintain accurate and legible records (including electronic submissions)
  • Operate and maintain cage washers, autoclaves, and sanitation equipment
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations
  • Follow proper use of disinfection, sanitation, and cleaning agents
  • Support daily operations independently and collaboratively

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED and one of the following:
  • Completion of training equivalent to Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (AALAS) certification plus 1 year of animal care experience, or
  • 2 years of animal care experience appropriate to the role, or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1 year of animal handling or lab animal sanitation equipment experience required
  • Knowledge of animal husbandry (feeding, caging, space requirements, and species-specific care)
  • Familiarity with federal and licensing agency regulations
  • Ability to identify animal health concerns and communicate effectively with veterinary staff and researchers

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient in basic computer skills: email, barcode scanning, syncing PDAs, submitting reports, online training, and timesheet entry
  • Strong attention to compliance (e.g., no eating/drinking in animal areas, safety protocols)
  • Ability to work independently or with a team, following instructions precisely
  • Physical ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach, push/pull, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods

Working Conditions

  • Daily use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including protective clothing, glasses, safety shoes, gloves, and masks

Regulatory Affairs Specialist

The position will start on-site before transitioning to a hybrid schedule.

This role involves collaborating with a global team across Asia, Mexico, Korea, and Taiwan and may require late-afternoon calls. The position begins onsite and will transition to a hybrid schedule.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement regulatory strategies for products requiring approval or clearance.

  • Apply regulatory knowledge to support product submissions and compliance activities.

  • Prepare, review, and refine submission materials to meet regulatory standards.

  • Translate complex technical data into clear, reviewer-ready documentation.

  • Liaise with regulatory agencies to facilitate timely approvals.

  • Contribute to the strategic planning of regulatory pathways for new and existing products.

  • Retrieve and manage reports, protocols, and license transfers (over 6,000 documents) within Windchill.

  • Provide guidance and serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision, effectively prioritizing tasks.


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required).

  • 1–2 years of regulatory affairs experience (medical device industry preferred).

  • Experience preparing regulatory submissions and ensuring compliance with requirements.

  • Familiarity with Windchill document management system (preferred).
