How to Hire in Today’s Job Market

As we keep hearing that today’s job market is cooling down, the U.S. Department of Labor released early this month that in October, the jobless rate increased to 3.7% from 3.5% in September. A different survey used to calculate the unemployment rate revealed a loss of 328,000 jobs in the previous month. However, despite some of the numbers many labor experts have stated that workers still have some powers and that there are still plenty of job openings out there.

However, for employers, finding workers right now can be quite difficult. But with the changes in the economy and hiring markets, the idea of “hiring slow” remains true. Take your time to go through the job applicants or use services from a staffing firm that can help vet out the qualified candidates. Additionally, make sure in the interview process you are asking open-ended questions to help encourage your interviewers to speak, and you can better gage if they will be the right fit. Another keyway to help vet out the right candidates is testing their skills. This can be a great way for you to see if what they say they can do, they can.

Employers will also need to ensure they have great candidate experiences. In both our personal and professional life, first impressions are important. Companies must be ready to conduct interviews and be able to have a seamless process. It is important that you are making sure your candidate experience is positive and that you are constantly getting feedback to make it better. This is the best way to keep your candidates engaged and want to continue to interview with you. Additionally, Companies need to do more to attract and impress candidates throughout the whole hiring process, including email and phone correspondence, in addition to other preparations and the actual interview.

Also, leaders in talent acquisition and HR should prioritize diversity, equality, and inclusion (DE&I). It has been said that Businesses lack innovation when they don’t have a DE&I plan.

Companies need to embrace change if they want to attract people in today’s job market. The trends mentioned above will help businesses in transforming their workplaces. If you are looking to help with your hiring, contact Amerit to see how we can help you!

Hiring Strategies in the Healthcare Industry

The past two years we have seen a dramatic shortage of healthcare workers such as nursing assistants, registered nurses, physicians, etc. This has made it increasingly difficult to find qualified professionals to fill these positions. With the continued unpredictability of the global public health situation, healthcare staffing agencies need to be prepared with recruitment strategies to meet the demand.

Here are key hiring strategies in the healthcare industry:

  • Recruiting Software: An effective applicant tracking system can help you address common recruiting challenges, such as high costs or lengthy hiring timelines, by providing features like referral systems and more targeted candidate searches. Additionally, many applicant tracking systems offer valuable analytics and reporting to help you track your recruiting progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Employer Branding: To attract healthcare candidates, it is important to have a strong employer brand. This can be communicated through your careers page, with photos and videos that show what daily work life is like. Current employees can share their experiences to give prospective candidates a sense of what it is like to work at you.
  • Soft Skills: Health professionals who want to excel in their field should have a people-centered approach and value helping others. They should also have effective communication and listening skills, and the ability to work well under pressure. To make sure candidates have these traits, interviewers should prepare appropriate questions before meeting with them. Another option is to use assessment tools to help see their skillsets.
  • Job boards: In the healthcare Industry, it will be important for you to use the appropriate job boards. There are several job boards that are specifically for healthcare jobs such as Health Career Center, Hospital Centers, Medicaljobs.org, etc.
  • Hiring Process: For any industry, it is important to ensure your hiring process is seamless and positive. Candidates will not want to work with you if there is a lot of back and forth and the process didn’t leave them positive. Ensure you have a simple and intuitive process that candidates will not drive away from.

Most healthcare workers know the difficulty of hiring healthcare workers as there aware of the shortages. However, having the right tools will help you pipeline your talent and create a positive candidate experience. If you are a healthcare worker looking for a job or a company looking for healthcare workers, contact Amerit today to learn how we can help you.

Why Small Businesses Should Hire Veterans

Small Businesses across the United States are still making it their top priority to attract and retain talent as many are struggling with their hiring goals. That is why they should hire Veterans as they are very valuable employees, and a lot of companies are not aware of the positive impact they could make on their business.

No matter the industry or business size, there is always certain qualities that employers are looking for in their workforce. These qualities cannot be taught as they are mostly a characteristic of someone. These qualities include having strong work ethic, loyalty, and the ability to work well with others/in a team. These traits are ideal to many companies and can be found in many U.S. military members.

Veterans have always been prime candidates for any industry and many businesses want to support this community as they slowly start to transition back into civilian life. Many have created hiring goals/programs specifically for Veterans to help get them employed, with over 80% of small business saying that they feel it is important to focus on hiring veterans.

However, only 56% of small business participate in some activity related to Veterans and that same report stated one in 10 small businesses have intentionally recruited veterans in the past year.

Veterans have always been taught that the mission comes first and that they need to be able to adapt to different situations but have one goal in mind, and that is to complete the mission no matter what. Additionally, this type of mentality is easily carried over when Veterans transition to the civilian workforce.

During their time in the military, service members are asked to reflect on projects or missions using an After-Action Review (AAR).  This is often sometimes called “postmortems”. These critical reflections are used to help reflect on their experience and what is needed to be improved and what worked well. Which this type of skill is great to help develop professional development and really be able to be an expert on skills and continue to learn and grow.

Additionally, Military members are cross trained in multiple skills, for example, they get trained on computer programming and problem solving which helps them be able to achieve greater success on assignments.

Therefore, hiring a veteran is simple. They are dedicated employees that have developed valuable skills that are very desirable to many companies. Hiring employees can be a difficult task as you are not only trying to find the right talent for the job but also the right fit. The good news is that Veterans could be your solution. Skillsets Checklist

Many companies are looking at IT candidates’ skillsets and trying to ensure they check off all the requirements.
