Woman Smiling In Corporate Office

REBOOT has graduated hundreds of transitioning veterans and has now launched their “Ready 4 Hire” initiative. Ready 4 Hire is a bold new concept to “push” veterans ready for hire out to employers.

Each week they will send profiles with their LinkedIn page where you can view their entire portfolio. Join their email list and let’s do our part to get these veterans back to work. Here are the “Ten Top” reasons to hire them.“

Keeping the Promise: More than Business

Woman Smiling in the City

Amerit Consulting, and sister companies KelleyAmerit Fleet Services and IC Advisor had the honor of attending the 20th Annual Keeping the Promise Conference/Expo on May 14 and 15 in Los Angeles.

Inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s promise “that this nation care for those who ‘shall have borne the battle,’” the KTP Conference began in 1994 in an effort to foster and support veteran owned businesses. The KTP Conference provides a valuable networking forum for veteran owned businesses and large corporations who seek supplier diversity, while celebrating and appreciating our country’s armed services men and women. But KTP is not all business.

The evening gala event is always a Hollywood star-studded dinner. This year, giving heartfelt speeches, actors Jon Voight, Louis Gosset, Jr., James McEachin, Dennis Haysbert, and Dodger baseball Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda, founder of Tommy’s Team, shared their experiences and passion for serving those who have sacrificed so much in service to our country.

However, the true stars of this year’s event were the past, present and future military soldiers, featuring a swearing-in of over 140 new recruits, as well as recognizing and  honoring special veteran groups within the community.  This year the Tuskegee Airmen -who were recently depicted in the Hollywood motion picture Red Tails –  were honored for their service to this great nation. A standing ovation welcomed them and punctuated the sense of gratitude that overflowed the room for their service and courage during World War II.

Honored that evening were, George Mitchell, a Tuskegee Radio Instructor; Claude Rowe, an RCAF pilot and Tuskegee Airmen Pilot, the only documented Tuskegee Airmen to have two sets of wings; and Alfonso Harris, a Tuskegee Airmen Pilot, Flight Officer. Joining them were their wives, family members, and President of their association, Paulette Mello.  The table was filled with genuinely grateful, humbled service men and their families who were truly overwhelmed at the support.

Amerit was proud and honored to have been a part of Keeping the Promise. Fellow sponsors of the event included McKesson, Union Bank, Symantec, AT&T, Hewlett Packard, and the California Department of General Services, among others.

Amerit Consulting is a state and federally certified Disabled Veteran Owned Business Enterprise. CEO Gary Herbold, a Vietnam veteran and Purple Heart recipient is also President of the CA DVBE Alliance organization, which annually hosts the Keeping the Promise Conference.

In related news: The senate is in the final stages of passing a resolution to name part of the I- 15 freeway near MCAS Miramar, “The Tuskegee Airmen Highway”. For additional information click here. The Tuskegee Airmen group is in the process of raising the $8,000 needed to support the signage, placement, and other fees which Caltrans has indicated are needed to make this a reality. Please join us in supporting this great opportunity. Donations can be made to TAISD (Tuskegee Airmen Inc. San Diego) and be sent to their treasurer, Arlys Erickson, 30125 Corte Cantera, Temecula, CA 92591.  Their tax ID is #33-0645298.

Amerit Celebrates Military Appreciation Month with its “Veterans First” Initiative

WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. – In celebration of Military Appreciation Month, Amerit Consulting, California’s largest Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise, announced today the launch of its new initiative, Veterans First.

Veterans First is Amerit’s promise to continue their search for top tier talent by starting with qualified military veterans from their database to fill open positions.

Amerit is asking companies to join them in helping our country overcome the alarming 29 percent1 unemployment rate among veterans by hiring them for positions that utilize their strength of leadership, work ethic and technical training that were developed during their time in the military.

“We believe veterans are the best candidate to hire,” said Gary Herbold, founder of Amerit Consulting. “Their world-class technical training and education make them an asset to all companies seeking to strengthen their future. Veterans First is about doing the right thing by placing veterans in careers where their unique skills and character will be valued after serving.”

Companies that hire veterans also benefit by realizing up to $9,600 in tax credits per veteran can be earned during this calendar year. Amerit Consulting’s Veterans First initiative is designed to quickly find the best-qualified, top tier veterans that fit their partners’ needs.

To find out how hiring a veteran would benefit your company, contact Eve Nasby, Vice President of Sales, at [email protected].

Amerit Consulting, a DVBE company with a mission to counsel entrepreneurial minded returning veterans

Woman Smiling In Corporate Office

After 46 years Gary Herbold, former Navy-Marine Combat Corpsman, has returned to San Diego to help other Disabled Veterans with employment.

Amerit Consulting was founded in 2002 but one could say Amerit started when Gary Herbold joined the Navy in 1965 in San Diego and enlisted in Medical Corps School at Balboa Naval Hospital. Following two more hospital assignments, Gary was back in San Diego again in early 1968 at Camp Pendleton for additional FMF (Fleet Marine Force) training to prepare him for duty in Viet Nam with the 1st Marine Corps Division, 3/26 Marines, as a combat medic.

Gary served on the ground during the TET Offensive in Viet Nam, and while helping fellow Marines injured during a series of land mine blasts, was injured himself in both legs and spent the next year recuperating in Naval hospitals.

His heroic acts earned him a Purple Heart, and modern medicine allowed him to keep both legs.

Unknowingly, his disability instantly threw him into a different kind of life changing experience equally as difficult and challenging as serving with the Marines, but with land mines of a different sort. He had to find a job! But who was going to hire a disabled veteran?

These life-changing events shaped the rest of Gary’s life and set the table for him to become a successful Disabled Veteran Business owner. In 2002 Gary started his own business, Amerit Consulting, under the state mandated DVBE program. Gary’s experiences continue to fuel his desire to provide support and outreach to other disabled veterans and are the backbone of the culture and values that the company operates by today.

Currently, Gary serves in both local and statewide positions with roles that support the DVBE process. Most recently Gary was elected as the President of the California DVBE Alliance. The Alliance was formed in response to California’s 1989 establishment of the Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE) program. The Alliance continues work with the California state government to help pass and maintain legislation in favor of DVBEs. Through these roles and outreach, Gary continues to encourage entrepreneurial-minded disabled veterans and assist them in building their businesses.

Eve Nasby, Amerit’s Vice President of Business Development, is passionately involved with the local San Diego DVBE Alliance Network, VANC and Operation Re-Boot for the purpose of helping returning veterans launch their civilian careers.

About Amerit

Amerit Consulting, Gary Herbold President, support CADVBE Veteran’s Day Breakfast

Man In Glasses

Amerit Consulting and Gary Herbold are proud to have been a part of this year’s California Disabled Veteran Business Alliance Veteran’s Day Breakfast, “Honoring America’s Women Warriors”.

The purpose of the breakfast was to celebrate with men and women recently returned from deployment, disabled veterans and celebrity guests who have served and/or support America’s Warriors. This once a year event brought together those who are serving, those who have served, and those who are about to begin their service.

In a very moving ceremony Captain Charles Helwig, USAF, inducted over 40 women into all five branches of military service during the event. These new inductees were greeted as the “newest women warriors” with a standing ovation.

The audience was also delighted to meet the special guest of retired Navy Captain Rich Dryden, Executive Director of the California Disabled Veterans Business Alliance, Evelyn Lackey, a 101 year old Navy WAVE and veteran from WWII. She delighted everyone who met her with her  spirit and energy, saying “this is the best day ever”!

Gary Herbold, Amerit’s President, welcomed everyone to the breakfast with opening remarks about the Alliance and its purpose in assisting our returning military heroes as they transition into civilian life.  For more information about the CDVBA please go to http://cadvbe.org/

Jon Voight (Deliverance, Mission Impossible, National Treasure), a veteran himself, gave an emotional introduction of Medal of Honor recipient, Alfred Rascon. Actor Kevin Dobson (Kojack and Knott’s Landing), also a veteran, introduced Medal of Honor recipient, Tibor Rubin.

Baseball Hall-of-Famer Tommy Lasorda also entertained the crowd with his comments but then became serious as he introduced his partnership with the CADVB Alliance in developing Tommy’s Team, a new organization who’s purpose is to mentor and assist returning veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. Please find further information about Tommy’s Team at https://twitter.com/TOMMYLASORDA .

Amerit was the proud host of CareFusion at this year’s event. We were also very proud to have Captain Helwig among the distinguished guests at our table.

Also among the distinguished list of celebrity attendees were Dennis Haysbert (24), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), JK Simmons (Law & Order), Kevin Sorbo (Hercules), Lorenzo Lamas (Falcon Crest), Mimi Rogers (X-Files), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), Sean Young (Blade Runner), Ed Lauter (The Longest Yard) among many others.
